I think we are due for a little Fall inspiration now that it's post-labor day September. I've rounded up some of my favorite Fall trends for 2015. You'll notice a lot of boho pieces, winter whites and fun textures and prints throughout. This is just the first post of many to come on my favorite Fall things, especially because I'm totally feeling the mixture of 70's and 90's vibes this year–lots of fringe, high-waisted and suede pieces. I hope you guys get a little bit of inspiration from this post!
1. CHUNKY KNITS
Despite the name, chunky knits can actually be super flattering. Pair an oversized sweater with skinnies, leggings or even a mini skirt to achieve a casual, put-together look this Fall. I never say no to comfort, and I definitely never say no to an oversized sweater with an undersized mini.
2. FUR VEST
Keep warm in a (faux) fur vest this year! These can get pretty pricey, but they really are a staple investment piece that can be worn for years to come. I've been blogging about fur vests for three years, and they still haven't gone out of style. I would pick a neutral color that goes with a variety of patterns and looks. You can throw it on with a sweater and jeans, or dress it up with a mini leather skirt and heeled booties.
3. FRINGE
I am LOVING this trend–it might actually be my favorite of this bunch. Fringe is so flirty and fun, and YES, it CAN go with anything. It's an opportunity to get adventurous with your outfit, whether it be with some fringe-accented heels, a fringed suede jacket, or even a fringe bag (this is my own personal favorite here…I have it in black). Just go for it, you'll thank me later.
4. THE TURTLENECK
OK, I know this one might be a little controversial, but I am realllly feelin' the turtleneck vibe lately. I didn't think I could pull it off, but I tried it out and changed my mind. I decided that if you can pull off a scarf (which, yes, you can), then you can pull off a turtleneck. I think my favorite part about this trend is that it's really really warm.
5. THE JUMPSUIT
Jumpsuits are kind of a year-round phenomenon. I have a black jumpsuit that I wear in the winter with a leather jacket and booties, and in the summer sans outerwear with wedges or stilettos. They are so versatile and definitely great investment pieces. I prefer to keep the jumpsuit itself simple, and add an edge to the outfit through statement jewelry and outerwear–I guarantee you can make at least five very different outfits with the same jumpsuit (next post, perhaps?).
6. SUEDE
Shorts, skirts, boots, jackets…suede can literally “bad-ass” any item of clothing. I'm personally LOVING the high-waisted front button-down suede minis. I also bought a pair of Stuart Weitzman Lowland boots last year and cannot recommend them enough–they are super comfortable and go with anything. 100% worth the price!
7. LEATHER
Leather, like suede, pretty much goes with anything, and can add an edge to any outfit in the form of pants, shorts, jacket or boots. I know you're probably not surprised this is on the list…because it always is, but try to wear leather in a new way this fall. I love the look of a moto jacket over a sweater dress, and I also want to try out some leather shorts with over-the knee boots and a chunky knit as well.
8. PLAID
Ah, my old friend, I've missed you. I feel like plaid (aside from flannels) is kind of awkward to wear in the summer, so I'm super excited for all my plaid items to be back in action. Again, such a versatile pattern. You can go schoolgirl, mountain-woman, or just plain chic. I tend to go with schoolgirl, but I might explore my mountain-woman side this winter. Stay tuned.
9. TWO-PIECE SETS
I LOVE TWO-PIECE SETS, especially when they are matching patterns and materials. I just think they are so classy and really different from the usual hum drum boring life of wearing basic body con dresses and skirts. I might be a little bit more hesitant to wear these come deep winter time, but seeing as it's still 90 degrees in September, I think my two-piece-set-season has at least a good two more months to go.
10. FLARES
I think the last time I wore flared pants I was shopping at Limited Too, but alas…what goes around comes around. I'm especially into the really long lace or patterned spandex bell bottoms that can hide tall platforms so your legs look super long and skinny…magical.
I hope you guys got some good inspiration for your own Fall looks! Be sure to tweet me pictures of your favorite looks at @fashionhotbox. I want to see what you guys come up with I will feature my favorite ones!
xx Emma
